Americans are great at overdoing holidays. Thanksgiving is definitely no exception. We eat big, party big and of course kick off the Christmas season with Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales. Go big or go home, right?! Unfortunately, with all the madness it can be easy to overlook the more important meaning of this season.
We have so much to be thankful for. Simply by reading this post is proof you are living a life most people throughout history could never have imagined. Reading this means you are wealthy enough to own a device that accesses the world wide web. Even the cheapest devices and computers nowadays are far superior to the machines from even just 10 years ago, not to mention 50 years, 100 years or more.
Reading this also means you have access to electricity. Even if you’ve obtained that electricity from somebody else, like a friend’s house, a coffee shop or a low income housing unit, you have electricity. Still, in today’s modern era there are countries where electricity is considered a luxury reserved for only the very wealthy, but not here. Not in America.
You are free. Individual liberty is something that is definitely not the historical norm, or even the standard practice globally today. But as an American you have the ability to live out your existence as a free person, unconstrained by tyrannical despots and burdensome government systems that control individual choices and suffocate liberty.
Let all of that sink in. We have so much to be thankful for this Thanksgiving and all year round.
Happy Thanksgiving and God bless!
